Well actually 2 problems..
1st. I rebuilt a computer for someone with a Asus P4S800, INtel 2.8P4 retail box with fan, PC2700 512K, ATI Raedon 9200 128MB and XP Home SP1. We reused the case, floppy, cd drives (1 Mitsumi old one and a Sure and Friendly CD/RW), power supply (recently was replaced from what I was told 300w) and 40GB hard drive.
Basically its been a problem since built. The XP disk he bought didnt work right. Computer hung alot. So we used a different disk and it worked fine. Installed the Soundmax drivers for the board. Speakers work fine. We get sound for everything EXCEPT when he put Star Wars Battle for Naboo on. Game works fine except it has no sound other than a blip every 5-6 secs. I havent the clue as to the problem other than maybe its a driver problem. We have the updated drivers but do you just put them in the folder where the other soundmax ones are or by device mgr? I tried the device mgr way but it wouldn let me select the folder I put it in. BTW Naboo worked fine in 2 other computers (another 2.8P4 system w/asus board and my AMD laptop)
Other problem. He tried to install Star Wars Battlefront (yes hes a star wars geek, has every game for pc) but it locked up on the 2nd install disc (2700mb game). This is stumping me. Could an older CD-rom be a problem? One drive is at least 3yrs old and the other is close. We tried with both drives and it locked each time.
Any answers would be great. This guy (36) is just so impatient its like having a 6yr old around. He gets way bent out of shape about these problems with I think are minor. I'm about ready to just tell him to take it to the computer shop since I cant work on it without him jumping in and fiddling with things. He said he's gonna ask a guy he works with (who also builds computers) if he can help also. So any ideas guys?
