  • Out of Range error message

I recently upgraded my system and i'm having multiple issues with it. Specs are as follows

    Soyo KT600 Dragon Ultra Platinum
    AMD XP 3000+ Barton 400
    Radeon 9000
768mb pc3200 - brand not known but worked fine w/ previous 2500 system
    WD 80gb sATA 7200 rpm

Since the upgrade the issue i'm facing is that the computer will randomly hang or give me an out of range message on the monitor if i'm playing a game such as age of mythology. The only way i can get my computer to run properly is to change the fsb settings for both the ram and cpu to 133 in the bios which slows the processor down to 1800+. The ram seems to work if i put the bios settings to 200 but the computer seems to run slower when i do that.

If anyone has any ideas or needs further information i'd appreciate it. I saw how fast this thing was when the initial install was going on and i'd like to get it running at that full time. Thanks for your time

out of range means that the graphics card is putting out too high a resolution or refresh rate for the monitor to handle.

my resolution is only 1024X768 which is supported by the monitor and the refresh rate is only set at 60Hz. Also even when not playing games my system will randomly freeze if the settings are set to what they should be. I've tried setting the fsb for both the ram and cpu to auto as well as 200 and either way the system will randomly hang? I'm totally confused, never run into this problem before. Is there any strategy to finding out which hardware is causing the problem?
