    Re: Comp slowing down

Hmm... Try posting the HijackThis log again. There must be some processthat is slowly taking power away. I can leave my computer on for days or weeks and not get any kind of the slowdown you're describing.

Also, have you read the XP services guide on www.blackviper.com? It's really worth the time to go through and disable unnecessary services. In fact, that could fix your problem as svchost represents several Windows services. Go through it and every service you have and figure out whether you need everything. It's worth taking the time, especially if it fixes your problem.

Your drivers are wrong. Chipset drivers first, than video drivers, LAN/Sound than whatever else. Also, SP2 is a worthy update.

That would be the dubm way to go about doing it...

You still have several programs that shouldn't be running. AIM, Winzip, AOL (this shouldn't be anywhere near your system to start with), the Java console, and several other Windows services. Until you deal with this stuff, you're going to have this same problem. When you reformat and reinstall everything, it will return.

                Re: Comp slowing down

Try a little experiment: End process the svchost that goes up in CPU usage. If the computer doesn't give you a message saying RPC ended and it's shutting down, then it's not Remote Procedure Call. That means you might be able to fix it or find the cause of the problem.

Although, it's quite possible that this is normal behavior. I've never noticed svchost taking up more CPU as I start games.
