Re: DFI Mobo and Pentium 4 Prescott?
The only reason i chose that processor over the northwood core equivilent is because it has 1024 L2 cache and the northwood core has 512. I figured that more is better, and will give me better performance, but a friend of mine just got this CPU and is having a major headache with the heat. He was idling at 55C last night, which is horrible. I still dont know what to do, and i was comparing a similar priced athlon to it, but the P4 kills it. Does anyone have a site with comparisons that says otherwise? Also, is it worth it to go with the prescott core just for the extra L2 cache? Thanks again.

There is a BIOS update for that mainboard to handle Prescotts but I'd prefer to go with a P4C 2.8 or 3.0 on that mainboard as they will give you better performance clock for clock over the P4E and with much less heat produced.

DFI Mobo and Pentium 4 Prescott?
Ok, i've have researched for months and months on parts and makes and everything and I finally actually have the money to build the computer that i want. However, the mobo that i have chosen may/may not be compatible with the processor that i have chosen because it has a prescott core, and apparently there are a crazy amount of compatibility issues with prescott cores. Well, i checked the compatibility chart on DFI's website, and it listed the pentium 4 3.0 ghz on it. However, i believe that the cpu with the prescott core is called the 3.0E Ghz, which was absent from the list. I emailed DFI's tech support, and recieved no answer in the space of a week. Does anyone know if they are compatible? I am interested in the 865pe lanparty just for your information, and any help would be greatly appreciated. The following links are the parts that I am considering.
