My 6800 comes in tomorrow. Last night I began installing all of my benchmarking software so I could compare scores. Today I began benchmarking and for some reason I also changed a few of my memory timings. I booted up and ran pcmarks02 and got alittle higher memscore so I was happy. Later, after restarting, I went to login and as windows was loading the system just restarted... no blue screen, just monitor going into power save mode just like a restart. I figured the memory just wasn't stable so I began changing things back to the way i had it before. After changing everything back, the system still does the same thing. In my mind I'm pretty sure I know what is causing this, but I wanted to hear some other opinions first. The memory is in the sig and now i have 2-3-2-6 @ 2.6V just the way it says. The timings that I changed were the dram command rate (from 2 to 1), the write recovery time from 3T to 2T and something called "tWTR" from 2 to 1. As i said before though, all of these timings have been changed back to the more conservative of the two. Any ideas... please?

Well, ok... 2.7 seems to be working. What i really want to know is why though. After running this machine with these settings for 8 months, why now, do I have to up the voltage? I had thought that perhaps my PSU was failing. In the past I've had my ram at 2.5V and would occasionally get BSOD until i finally realized that the stock voltage was 2.6. There is no BSOD now, just reboot. I'm running pcmarks now and it seems to be doing fine. I noticed today also that my 12V rail is at 12.6V. I have a generic Raidmax 350W PSU that came w/ my case. I guess I'll wait and see if the new vcard causes any probs.

I can't say why the memory started wanting more juice... maybe you inadvertantly made other changes you didn't realize at the time? But here is something to consider; when OCZ tests their memory modules, they always use either 2.7 or 2.8v when doing so. There is no harm in doing this and the added heat from the memory is not enough to justify any added cooling so it usually isn't mentioned.
Oh, and about the 12v rail, don't worry about it. It is right at the +/- 5% variance so it isn't anything to be worried about. In fact, it can be beneficial for the enthusiast rig since it is providing a little extra juice to power hungry peripherals working off the 12v rail... like that new 6800 you've got coming?Old age and treachery will overcome youth and skill

Well... I shut the system down for about half an hour. Came back and everything is fine (as far as i can tell). I ran pcmarks fine and am running ut2k3 benchmark right now. I don't know wtf shutting down would do but it seems to have fixed it. I was getting ready to reset bios to make sure that I hadn't changed anything and forgotten about it but it looks like I won't have to worry about it. I've had some really f-d up problems in the past with bios but usually all i have to do is reset it and its fine. I'm still considering a new psu though, seeing as I've got a fairly generic one now. Thanks for the help.

On second thought...
I just realized that I had 2-2-3-6 timings rather than 2-3-2-6 timings. I apologize for wasting your time. Thats the one thing I don't like about this epox board. The menu for adjusting timings in the bios is all jumbled around and the Trcd and Trp timings are swithed around. Ohwell problem solved. Thanks again.
