  • Another harddrive problem

I'm tring to add a slave drive to a windows XP machine. Problem is the drive shows up in Cmos and in the Device manager in Windows XP but its not listed under my compuer. It did this in 2 systems. All the jumpers are set correctly. What can I do to troubleshoot this?

it's either a partition that windows doesn't recognize, not formated, or hidden

go to control panel/Admin. Tools/Comp. Management

click on disk manage. and find your hdd and figure out from there why it's not showing up

go into Control Panel> Admin Tools > Disk Management and assign a drive letter, or uninstall the Primary IDE channel and reboot

I've had them not show up before. But then again, the partitions were faulty as well...

Click on that spot where it says unallocated and create a Partition/Partitions

If you get a new drive, you must format/partition it. If you deleted the partition etc it does that

It's not a new drive and I didn't think I deleted a partition, unless I did it when I formatted and reistalled Windows on the Master drive.
Well anyway thanks again for the help. Everything is good now.:)
