  • VIAArena Reviewing Own Products?

Now stop me if I am wrong but something isn't right here but VIA Arena just seems to be loosing its credibility lately.

First off its run by VIA Employees and lately they have been reviewing their own products. First their P4X333 systems and now their sound chips.

To me this is like Samsung starting a news and reviews site posting reviews of their products done by their own staff.

If you need any convincing check out the VIA Arena website and check their own review of the 24bit Audio chip. This was just too much.

Well it is there to help with and promote VIA products so I think that is understandable and what I always thought the site was about. : peace2:

Yes I can see that point to it. But when they are doing comparasons against other companies products themselves that draws the line for me with companies doing their own reviews.

I can understand pro promotions they can state what the product does. But when they are doing their own reviews of their own chipsets (as in giving it ratings and recommendations) that is not right.

I believe that VIA Arena should be linking reviews of their products, not reviewing them.

Thats just my 2 cents worth

but you can't link to a review of a chipset, because there are none, you have to link to reviews of other manufacturers products which contain VIA components in them. Take for example, linking to every KT333 motherboard review out there - it will become messy and very hard for the people at VIA Arena to keep their lists up-to-date

Incorrect - That's what reference boards are good for... Example:

              Thanks Mr Tweak.

Yes VIA does provide reference boards for sites to review.

This is what they should be linking.

I don't mind if they link to review of say EPoX boards that perform well and say not to ones like Biostar that don't perfom well that is all well and dandy

But then they start testing and reviewing it themselves like they have done with the P4X333 and now their audio chip.

Check this out. They test their own P4X333 in the following review http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=112

and have the gaul to post benchmarks of it and expect people to think its impartial? http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=115

              This is just not right.

This is more ok but still not 100%

              DDR333 comparason. http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=99

While yes they do use their KT333 chipset, they are testing DDR-333 which is well and good, something that they aren't directly selling

Now I think that VIA is a good company for their chipsets, but this is just too much, You don't do your own reviews.
