  • My Sapphire Radeon HD6870 is not working. At all. Help.

This is my first time building a computer.
    I'm using the ASRock M3A770DE motherboard http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=M3A770DE
I am using the Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 graphics card.

I have reviewed manuals and connected everything best I could. I believe my graphics card is properly seated in the PCIe slot because I firmly pushed it in, there is a little white tab that slides into an indentation along the edge of the card to lock it in, and it slides in fastened, indicating it is properly seated.

On the ASRock motherboard, there are two horizontal slots - a green slot and an orange slot. I plugged my graphics card into both PCIe slots and didn't get anything.

When I power my computer on, the CPU fan spins and the hard drive also seems to be spinning, so I think my motherboard and power supply are working properly. Something must be wrong with either the graphics card or the connectors between the PSU and the graphics card.

I find the molex 6-pin connectors suspicious, because my PSU came with
    (1) 4+2 molex connector
    (2) 6-pin connectors

The Sapphire video card has two 6-pin connectors. So I plugged the two blue 6-pin PSU connectors into them.

However, one of the 6-pin PSU connectors is a "branch" of the other one, and has to turn around like a U to plug into the graphics card. I think this is suspicious?

The monitor reads no VGA signal and the little fan on the graphics card doesn't spin, so I don't even think the graphics card is supplied with power!

    Please help.

If you can try the card in another computer. Check and make sure the 6 pin connector has power. Try a card you no that works in the new board.

Okay, I'm going to try another graphics card I know works in there now.

It's an older low-end graphics card though... I hope that doesn't ruin anything if you stick it with a bunch of higher-end components.

as long as its pci express it wont hurt anything. Even if you have a pci video card that works to try. if that does not work take everything back out.Put your ram in first the cpu and then vidiio card. try that for now.

The 6870 should come with a molex to 6pin adaptor, use that and just the one 6pin psu connector and see if it fires up

            @richard @wazza300

Thank you so much. I texted and called around but no one was available to lend me an extra motherboard or graphics card to test out my components, so I buckled in and went to GeekSquad ... I felt like it was cheating... but I'd rather use their anti-static table and equipment to test out my hardware and and pay the 70 bucks than trust my amateur self. My PC overall is still only 700 bucks so it's not too bad.

My components are all fine. I just had to plug in an extra 8-pin power connector to the motherboard!! I thought the 24-pin atx connector was good enough and didn't know the motherboard needed both plugged in.

Now I'm installing my drivers! Yay!!! It's working great!

Ya the 8 pin on the board powers the cpu. Well at-least you will know for your next build. Glad you have everything running now.Go kill some bad guys.
