They are real larrikins at Optus, here's their announcement about upgading the WACA cell to dual-band:

"This GSM1800 upgrade to our existing site at the WACA will provide increased capacity for Optus users with dual band handsets. A shame we can't upgrade the current Australian score against the Kiwis!"

At the moment, yes. There will be other 3G GSM carriers when it takes off :)

I'll be getting a satellite phone next upgrade.

These days, all the latest phones are getting smaller and lighter. You pay more and get less. If it were lingerie, I wouldn't mind... ;) And increasingly they're becoming PDAs as well as music centres. I wanna carry round a big briefcase and have to set up a solar panel directed at the sun to make a call. Talk about street cred. :D
