How to transform PC gamepad to xbox controller?

I'm playing Madden 06 on the PC. During the game my receivers are identified by numbers corresponding to the buttons on my gamepad. Now, I want to emulate the xbox and I was wondering if there's a way I can change the button icons to X,Y,A,B,L,R just like the xbox controller so the letters show up instead of numbers in the game?

I modded an old NES game pad to parallel once. I think I still have it, and it still works.
