  • "Pentagone" AKA "Goner" Virus Alert!!!!

    Fairly breaking news!

    Pentagone virus spreads rapidly

Wanted to give you a heads up.

The worm arrives in a message with the subject "Hi" and the following text in the body of the e-mail:

    How are you ?
When I saw this screensaver, I immediately thought about you
I am in a harry, I promise you will love it!

Attached to the message is what appears to be a screensaver file, Gone.scr, a compressed copy of the worm.

when opened it proceeds to disable firewalls and AV software.

    Keep an eye outfor it!

Guess we'll see how good the new Norton is. I just installed and updated the new Norton Internet Security 2002 and it's sidekick AV program.

I would like to suggest at this time possibly putting a thread in the technical forum.

I don't know that the Beer Garden is the best place to put this.
(Maybe on second thought it is) I just want to get this warning in the hands of as many of the gang here as possible.

Additionally, once it has been properly confirmed of course, an Admin might want to get a little something on the front page of TT for the loyal readers.

We all gotta' work together if we're gonna' get through this!

there is one bad ass one that gets sent through msn as well
itr automatically sends it's self and when you ask "what is it?" it sends out lots of ";)" to you and then sends more of them. i got this yesterday, but luckily i got rid of it before my sister opened it.

Thanks for the info there but I've been gettin' quite a few sent to me lately and most seem to be comin' from ppl who just read the Web News page which makes it quite frightening how many ppl out there have no or poor outdated virus protection and the main offender atm that I'm gettin' can be solved by upgrading to IE6.

about a 1/3 of machines still have win95 on em

As long as you can get done what needs done, your OK.
I'm happy with SE for the near future. Just need more processor and faster online connection and I'd be tickled.

2 of my systems have 95. That's good enough for what I need them for:thumb:
